GSES Stand Alone Power Systems Design Only Course
The GSES Stand Alone Power Systems Design Only Course is a fully online course designed for engineers or those who hold equipment basic electrical units and wish to learn to design stand-alone power systems. The course will provide you with the skills and knowledge in Stand Alone Power systems in order for you to analyse information, create bespoke solutions for clients and communicate these solutions to others.
Students will be expected to be highly engaged and motivated, actively designing and managing learning processes appropriate to the context. Students who successfully complete all components of the course will receive a certificate of completion equivalent to UEENEEK123A, UEENEEK125A, UEENEEK128A and UEENEEK139A.
Prerequisites: While there are no formal prerequisites to complete this course, there is heavy use of computer, calculator and mathematical equations. For this reason it is strongly recommended that students have prior knowledge of mathematics, as well as computer and calculator skills. Note: prospective students will need to have an electrical engineering degree, electrician’s qualification or successful completion of the GSES Electrical Basics Examination in order to be recommended for CEC Design Stand-alone Power Systems Accreditation.
For the GCPV Accredited variant: As above, and additionally UEENEEK125A and UEENEEK135A or equivalents (e.g. completed Grid-Connected PV Systems Design Only course).
For the Fast Track variant: As above, and additionally UEERE5001 or equivalent (e.g. completed Grid-Connected PV with Batteries Design Only course).
Outcome of successful completion: Certificate of completion equivalent to the following Units of Competency and eligible to apply for CEC Stand-alone Power Systems Design provisional accreditation (refer to the CEC for any additional requirements).
UEENEEK123A: Carry out basic repairs to renewable energy apparatus
UEENEEK125A: Solve basic problems in photovoltaic energy apparatus and systems
UEENEEK128A: Solve problems in stand-alone renewable energy systems
UEENEEK139A: Design stand-alone renewable energy (RE) systems
Licensed electricians or others who can demonstrate completion of the prerequisite VET sector units of competency will receive a Statement of Attainment for the above units.
Required materials: Students are supplied with the publication Stand Alone Power Systems Edition 8 after enrolment at no additional cost. Students are responsible for obtaining current copies of the following Australian Standards, available for purchase from the SAI Global website or Techstreet website, and also available from some libraries, institutions and industry associations:
AS/NZS 5033, AS/NZS 4777.1, AS/NZS 4509.1, AS/NZS 4509.2, AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008.1.1, AS/NZS 3010
