GSES Grid-Connected PV Systems Design Only Course
The GSES Grid Connected Photovoltaic Systems Design Only Course is designed for engineers, electricians or those who hold equivalent basic electrical units, who wish to learn to design grid-connected photovoltaic systems. This course comprises online theory and assessments which can be completed at students’ own pace. The course is online only.
Prerequisites: To receive a Statement of Attainment upon completion of the course, students must hold either:
An unrestricted electrical licence issued by an Australian state or territory
Competency in the following units as evidenced by Statements of Attainment or authenticated USI transcript:
- UEENEEE104A
- UEENEEG106A or UEENEEE108
- UEENEEE137A
If students do not meet the above requirement, but wish to apply for CEC accreditation upon completion of the course, they must demonstrate sufficient prior electrical knowledge through either:
An electrical engineering degree recognised by the Washington Accord
A certificate of completion for the GSES Electrical Basics examination (currently only available to engineers)
Students who do not meet any of the prerequisites described are warned that there is heavy use of computer, calculator and mathematical equations. For this reason it is strongly recommended that students have prior knowledge of mathematics, as well as computer and calculator skills.
Outcome of successful completion: Certificate of completion equivalent to the following Units of Competency and, along with an electrical engineering degree or certificate of completion for the Electrical Basics examination, eligible to apply for CEC Grid-connect Design provisional accreditation (refer to the CEC for any additional requirements).
UEENEEK125A: Solve basic problems in photovoltaic energy apparatus and systems
UEENEEK135A: Design grid connected photovoltaic power supply systems
Required materials: Students are supplied with the publication Grid-Connected PV Systems Design and Installation 8th Edition after enrolment at no additional cost. Students are responsible for obtaining current copies of the following Australian Standards, available for purchase from the SAI Global website or Techstreet website, and also available from some libraries, institutions and industry associations:
AS/NZS 5033 – Photovoltaic arrays
AS/NZS 4777.1 – Grid connection of energy systems via inverters
AS/NZS 3000 – Wiring rules
AS/NZS 3008.1.1 – Selection of cables Part 1.1
